Celebration of Life
San Diego People First held it's 17th Annual Conference on May 12 and May 13. The conference was a huge success. The conference was held at at the Marriott Hotel in Mission Valley. The theme this year was the "Celebration of Life."
Mark "Big Toe" Goffeney delivered the keynote address and provide vintage rock & roll entertainment. The mayor proclaimed May 12, 2007 as San Diego People First Day. Conference highlights included 10 Workshops, a well attended Health and Resource Fair, dog-grooming, make-overs and hairstyling, and a talent showcase. There was a host of volunteersSaturday night featured speeches by Liz Lyons of People First of California and Kim Rucker our DDS CAC representative. St. Madeline Sophie received the outstanding self-advocate group award. Darlene Hobbs was awarded the Michael Dellisa Award. Many important dignitaries were recognized. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner and many danced the night away at the Pavilion. On Sunday self-advocates had a tasty breakfast, read their "I believe statement", and shared their feelings during "Open-Mic."
