SDPF Accomplishments for 2006

La Jolla Shores

A busy year for SDPF

  • Hosted the 2nd Teddy Bear dance, 140 people attended and over 250 teddy bears were donated to children’s hospital
  • Continued to maintain the San Diego People First Web Site
  • Maintained the SDPF P.O. Box
  • Conducted another Soup’s On with San Diego People First fundraiser
  • Participated in the “Day in the Country” fundraising event for the annual self advocacy conference and plan to assist with the 2007 event
  • Hosted the 2006 conference and are busy planning the 2007 conference
  • Continue to support self advocacy in the community
  • Conducted voter education
  • Conducted a leadership symposium series through a grant we obtained
  • SDPF developed and maintained its partnerships with other organizations throughout San Diego
  • SDPF provided IPP Buddies to other self advocates
  • Created 45 gift baskets that were given to Rachel’s Women’s shelter
  • Presented on the IPP Buddy system at the Supported Life Conference in October
  • Conducted a panel presentation to a group of parents at the North County Annual Parent Symposium
  • Completed production of a video focused on Self Advocacy
  • Held the annual SDPF officer retreat
  • Continued to work on the scrap book album to record the history of SDPF in addition to posting articles on the SDPF web site
  • Conducted trainings to local day programs and transition programs on topics such as self advocacy, IPP Buddy System and Voting
  • Looked to gain financial support from the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities and other sources
  • Assisted with a training for facilitators
  • Participated in the resource fair at IEP Day and on the planning committee for the annual conference
  • Continued to gather information on becoming a non-profit organization
  • Began meeting monthly and holding workgroup meetings
  • Continue to support the SDPF speakers bureau
  • Continue to support self advocacy groups throughout the community
  • Helped each other to become better people and to speak for themselves
  • Developed friendships
  • Identified ways to become more independent
  • Realized how strong SDPF is and what a strong presence we have in the community
  • Allowing for personal growth and letting others be in charge
  • Despite changes in the support structure we survived and have a plan to move forward
  • Received compliments from other people and organizations throughout the state
