Leadership is a prized quality for self-advocates. Leaders step out in front of the pack and blaze a trail for others to follow.  Leaders draw on many skills and qualities beginning with character. This includes honesty, courage, wisdom, patience, diligence, and perseverance. Leaders take on various roles as cheer leader, team and consensus builder, navigator,  judge, problem solver, and communicator. Some are born with a charismatic personality or charm that enhance their leadership abilities. Leadership skills are enhanced through practice, opportunity, and experience. It is important for leaders to be knowledgeable and well informed on the issues. They need to be able to make sound decisions, and follow through with them. They need a strong will and hang in there when the going gets rough. Leaders can be a role model and inspiration for others. Leaders report it as very satisfying and rewarding.
