Self-Advocacy Conference

Each year San Diego People First holds its two-day, Self-Advocate Conference on Mother’s Day Week-end at the Mission Valley Marriott. We will hold the 2012 conference on May 12-13, 2012. On Friday evening, May 11, SDPF will host pre-conference activities. Over 400 self-advocates attend this educational and social event to advance the cause of self-advocacy in San Diego and through out the state. The conference begins with check-in and a resource fair. In the afternoon, we have a featured keynote speaker gives a speech that sets the tone for the Conference. Afterwards, we have workshops on specific topics related to self-advocacy. After the workshops are done, we have free-time. Ladies go to the beauticians and ready themselves for the dinner and dance. Others hang out by the pool. In the late afternoon, we have the SDPF American Idol talent show contest.

We begin the evening with a dinner and awards ceremony, and conclude the evening with a dance. Many people stay over at the hotel and attend the Sunday Morning activities which includes worship, breakfast, and raffle prizes.
